Public Health Organization

The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) is excited to partner with health departments and other public health employers to promote the Certified in Public Health (CPH) as a critical workforce development activity. The CPH credential is the only credential of its kind for public health professionals. The CPH demonstrates knowledge of key public health sciences and a commitment to the field through recertification earned by engaging in a variety of public health related activities focused on current and emerging public health issues. Certification benefits both public health employers and employees by bolstering the knowledge and skills of the workforce.
NBPHE is partnering with several state and local health departments in Texas to promote the CPH certification for their employees using the federal funds such as the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG). Through cooperative agreements, public health employers are seeking opportunities to invest in their workforce and CPH certification aligns well with their program goals. Grant funds can be used to cover the cost of exam fees and to purchase study materials for eligible employees.
NBPHE provides a discounted rate on the exam fee for our partners and assistance with navigating internal purchasing and procurement processes. NBPHE supports partners in their efforts to certify their workforce by providing promotional tools and resources, CPH Info sessions, and study prep materials. In addition, Health Departments and other public health employers connect with each other quarterly at the Community of Practice call hosted by NBPHE. During the call health department partners share best practices, ask questions, and learn from their peers.
